I wrote the following in response to an article in the RawStory.com 'Councilman Sent Brazenly Racist Obama e-mails' about a councilman in California who was caught sending racist emails about Obama on city computers. See the full story here:

It is amazing to me that no one seems to notice that, all of a sudden, all kinds of quote unquote racists are showing up. Do any of you wonder how many racists are being created by affirmation action? By the blatant favoritism--bordering on worship--toward Obama? By the strawman class warfare of most of our elected leaders?

This country was founded on equal opportunity; that the law treats everyone the same; and respect is earned, not legislated. Showing favoritism of any kind breeds social warfare. Someone who has never exhibited prejudiced behavior in the past could start exhibiting it if they observe blatant favoritism toward *any* identifiable subgroup. Right now, how many 'minorities' are being preferentially treated for most of the good things like jobs, etc.? and granted especially harsh punishments for violators of their quote unquote rights, 'hate crimes', etc?

The policy of preference that we have developed as a society toward minorities will virtually guarantee that we will have more racists, more bigots, more anti-Semites, more of every negative reaction to a person's sub-group. If groups are singled out in any way--positive or negative--we will never lose our prejudices. Only when everyone is truly equal before the law, can we hope to achieve a truly equal society.
